Johan Petter Johansson lamp
This is an extending wall or ceiling-mounted lamp, model Triplex, designed by Johan Petter Johansson and produced by Triplex Fabriken in Sweden during the 1940s. The design exemplifies Swedish mid-century industrial lighting, combining functional engineering with refined craftsmanship. The lamp features a telescopic arm construction, enabling it to extend from 140 cm to 300 cm in depth, offering versatile directional light for both work and ambient illumination.
The structure is composed of a lacquered metal arm, available here in one example with a white finish and another in a muted grey tone, paired with chrome-plated metal joints and fittings. The conical shade is crafted in brushed aluminium with a subtly flared rim and an adjustable swivel connection, allowing for precise angling of the light beam. The mechanical joints are executed in chromed metal with visible fastenings, marked “TRIPLEX PENDEL” and “MADE IN SWEDEN” reflecting its industrial heritage.
Condition is good vintage, with light wear, patina, and surface marks consistent with age and use. The lacquer shows minor abrasions and the metal surfaces bear signs of handling, adding to its authentic character. This lamp is a representative example of Scandinavian industrial design from the mid-20th century, where utilitarian functionality meets restrained aesthetics.
