Information

This rare set of nesting tables was designed by Johannes Andersen and produced by CFC Silkeborg in Denmark during the 1960s. The tables are executed in rosewood, a material widely used in Scandinavian mid-century furniture for its durability and richly figured grain. The surfaces display warm brown tones with darker streaks, enhancing the sculptural qualities of the design. Each table is designed to fit seamlessly under the next, creating a flexible and space-saving solution typical of the era.

The form is characterized by Andersen’s attention to proportion and detail. The tabletops have raised edges with subtly curved corners, providing both function and a refined visual balance. The legs are slender yet stable, shaped with soft inward curves that terminate in flat feet, connected by horizontal stretchers for additional structural support. The craftsmanship reveals the Danish tradition of woodworking, where both joinery and finish were given equal attention.

Johannes Andersen (1903–1991) was a Danish architect and designer who worked across a wide range of furniture typologies. Known for his organic lines and elegant silhouettes, Andersen’s work embodies the Scandinavian modernist ethos, where simplicity, utility, and beauty are brought together. His designs were produced by several manufacturers, with CFC Silkeborg being one of the notable collaborations. CFC Silkeborg, active in the mid-20th century, became known for producing high-quality modern Danish furniture that has since become collectible.

The set remains in good vintage condition with small signs of usage consistent with age and careful handling. These nesting tables represent both the practical ingenuity and sculptural sensitivity of Scandinavian mid-century design.
