Josef Frank floor lamp
This rare height-adjustable floor lamp, model G2326, was designed by Josef Frank and produced by Svenskt Tenn in Sweden during the 1950s. It exemplifies the refined elegance and functional design that are characteristic of Scandinavian modernism. The lamp features a brass structure, which has developed a rich patina over time, enhancing its vintage character. The original pleated fabric lampshade, in a soft off-white or cream color, adds a touch of warmth and texture to the design, contributing to the lamp’s understated yet sophisticated aesthetic.
The height of the lamp is adjustable, offering flexibility for different lighting needs and interior settings. This practical feature allows the lamp to be used in various configurations, from providing focused task lighting to offering ambient illumination. The base of the lamp is composed of elegantly curved legs that end in small spherical feet, creating a delicate and well-balanced silhouette. The graceful lines of the base, combined with the adjustable height, make this piece both functional and visually striking.
The brass structure shows signs of age and wear, including areas of oxidation and minor surface marks, consistent with the lamp’s age. The lampshade also exhibits slight discoloration, adding to its vintage appeal. Despite these signs of wear, the lamp remains in very good condition and retains its original design integrity.
The dimensions of the lamp are as follows: a diameter of 40 cm (15.7 inches), with an adjustable height ranging from 125 cm (49.2 inches) to 180 cm (70.9 inches). This range of height adjustment makes it a versatile piece, suitable for a variety of spaces and lighting needs. The lamp is a prime example of Josef Frank’s ability to combine functional elegance with timeless materials, making it a significant piece of mid-century Scandinavian design.
