Josef Frank (1885–1967) was an Austrian-Swedish architect and designer, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Scandinavian modernism. His work combined elements of classicism with modernist principles, focusing on comfort, functionality, and decorative elegance. Frank’s designs often featured natural materials and organic forms, which distinguished them from the stricter functionalism of many of his contemporaries.
Svenskt Tenn, the Stockholm-based design company founded in 1924 by Estrid Ericson, became internationally renowned for its collaborations with Josef Frank. The company’s production of Frank’s furniture and lighting designs cemented his legacy in Scandinavian design history, with his pieces celebrated for their timeless aesthetic and high-quality craftsmanship.
