Josef Frank floor lamp
This floor lamp, model 1842, was designed by Josef Frank and produced by Svenskt Tenn in Sweden during the 1950s. Crafted entirely from brass, the lamp exemplifies the elegant yet functional aesthetic central to Scandinavian mid-century design. Its structure features a slender central rod with a gracefully curved upper section that supports the lampshade holder. Stability and sculptural refinement are provided by a base composed of four outwardly curved legs ending in small rounded feet.
Josef Frank, an Austrian-Swedish architect and designer, was celebrated for his humanistic approach to modernism. His work at Svenskt Tenn introduced softer, organic forms that stood in contrast to the strict functionalism of earlier modernist movements. Founded in 1924 by Estrid Ericson, Svenskt Tenn remains one of Sweden’s most influential design firms, known for combining exceptional craftsmanship with timeless aesthetics.
The lamp is designed for versatility, featuring an adjustable height ranging from 100 cm (39.4 inches) to 145 cm (57.1 inches). It measures 20 cm in width and 50 cm in depth (7.9 x 19.7 inches). The brass surfaces display an aged patina and natural oxidation consistent with the lamp’s vintage character. The lamp is offered without a shade, allowing for customization according to user preference.
