Kaija Aarikka candelabra
This wrought iron candelabra was designed by Kaija Aarikka and produced in Finland during the 1960s, representing a notable example of mid-century Scandinavian metalwork. The piece features a bold geometric structure, with a horizontal bar supporting five circular candle holders. This bar is anchored by a central vertical stem that extends down to a circular base. A distinctive decorative element is provided by a series of twisted iron chain links hanging below the candle holders, adding a rhythmic and sculptural quality to the design.
Kaija Aarikka (1929–2014) was a Finnish designer acclaimed for her innovative work in jewelry, home accessories, and metal objects. Her designs often blend organic forms with playful details, drawing inspiration from Nordic craftsmanship and modernist aesthetics. Aarikka founded her own company in 1954, which became renowned for handcrafted wooden and metal products that combine functionalism with strong sculptural presence.
Constructed from black wrought iron, the candelabra reflects the durability and craftsmanship typical of Finnish design during this period. Its balanced proportions, combined with the decorative hanging chains, create a striking interplay of light and shadow when candles are lit.
The piece is in good vintage condition, showing age-appropriate signs of oxidation consistent with its material and era. It measures 35 cm in width, 15.5 cm in depth, and 30 cm in height (13.8 by 6.1 by 11.8 inches), making it both a functional and sculptural addition to any interior.
