Information

This set of wall lamps was designed by Kaj Gottlob and produced by Fog & Mørup in Denmark during the 1950s. The design reflects the refined functionalism of Scandinavian mid-century lighting, where balanced proportions, high material quality, and controlled light distribution were central design principles.

The lamps are constructed in brass with a warm, golden tone that has developed a subtle, even patina over time. The structure consists of a central round wall plate from which two gently curved brass arms extend symmetrically. Each arm supports a cylindrical opal glass shade with a slightly tapered profile. The opal glass is evenly opaque, providing soft and diffuse illumination while concealing the light source. A thin internal brass support beneath each shade adds structural clarity and visual rhythm without interrupting the overall simplicity of the form.

Kaj Gottlob was an influential Danish architect and designer whose work often emphasized clarity, proportion, and rational construction. Although best known for his architectural projects, his lighting designs translate the same principles into smaller scale objects. Fog & Mørup was one of Denmark’s leading lighting manufacturers in the mid-20th century and collaborated with several prominent designers, producing fixtures that combined technical precision with a distinctly Nordic aesthetic.

The lamps are in excellent vintage condition, showing only small signs of use consistent with age. The brass surfaces retain their original finish with minor surface marks, and the opal glass shades are well preserved with no visible cracks or chips. The overall impression is one of careful use and good maintenance.

The design is characteristic of Scandinavian mid-century style, combining restrained elegance with functional clarity. The symmetrical composition and soft light quality make these lamps suitable for both architectural and domestic settings, where they function as both lighting and sculptural wall elements.

Dimensions per lamp are approximately 33 cm in width, 19 cm in depth, and 31 cm in height, corresponding to about 13.0 x 7.5 x 12.2 inches.
