Kristian Solmer Vedel side table
This rare side table, which doubles as a fruit bowl, was designed by Danish architect and industrial designer Kristian Solmer Vedel in 1963 and produced by Søren Willadsen Møbelfabrik in Denmark. It exemplifies the Scandinavian mid-century modern ideal of blending organic materials with functional design.
The base is crafted from rosewood, prized for its rich grain and durability, shaped into a minimalist frame with slightly tapered legs that provide a refined and elegant support. Resting atop this is a wide, shallow aluminum bowl with a brushed finish, offering a striking contrast between the warm tones of the wood and the cool industrial sheen of the metal.
Kristian Solmer Vedel is celebrated for his innovative use of materials and forms, and this piece reflects his ability to merge visual appeal with practicality. Søren Willadsen Møbelfabrik’s craftsmanship ensured high-quality production, making this table both collectible and representative of Danish modernism.
The table is in very good vintage condition, showing typical wear on the aluminum surface consistent with age and use.
