Leo Thafvelin stools

This rare set of nine bar stools was designed by Leo Thafvelin and produced by Johanson Design in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1990s. Each stool features a tapered conical base made from brushed steel, which extends vertically and flares slightly at the foot into a rounded disc base, providing both stability and a sleek silhouette. The design includes an integrated circular steel tubing footrest positioned at mid-height, adding functional comfort while maintaining clean lines.

The seats are upholstered in dark brown leather, with a smooth, gently domed surface that contrasts elegantly against the cooler brushed steel. The leather is tightly fitted, emphasizing the interaction between the warm, natural upholstery and the industrial precision of the metal base. These stools are fixed-height and non-swiveling, intended primarily for commercial or high-end residential bar environments.

Leo Thafvelin, a Swedish designer active in the late 20th century, is recognized for minimalist yet expressive seating designs. His collaborations with Johanson Design focus on clarity of form, durability, and adaptability, particularly suited for public and hospitality spaces.
