Louis Weisdorf ceiling lamp
This rare ceiling lamp, model Turbo, was designed by Louis Weisdorf and produced by Lyfa in Denmark during the 1950s. The lamp features a sculptural spherical shade made from grey-beige lacquered metal slats arranged in a dynamic helical pattern. This layered construction diffuses light while creating an intricate interplay of light and shadow.
Louis Weisdorf, a Danish architect and industrial designer, was known for his innovative lighting designs that combined multi-layered structures to shield the light source and enhance visual impact. The Turbo model exemplifies his philosophy, merging geometry and function to produce both direct and indirect illumination.
The lacquered metal surface is well-preserved, showing minimal signs of aging and retaining its original color and finish. When lit, the slatted design casts a warm, ambient glow that highlights the lamp’s three-dimensional form while minimizing glare.
Measuring 35 cm (13.8 inches) in diameter and 30 cm (11.8 inches) in height, with an overall drop length of 50 cm (19.7 inches), this lamp stands as a notable example of mid-century Scandinavian lighting design.
