Information

This wall mirror was produced in the 1950s by Glas & Trä, Hovmantorp, Sweden. It features a sculptural teak frame surrounding a crystal glass mirror. The frame is shaped with a soft organic contour that narrows at the top and bottom, giving the mirror an elongated oval form with pointed ends. The teak displays a warm reddish-brown tone with expressive wood grain, emphasizing both craftsmanship and the natural qualities of the material.

The mirror belongs to the Scandinavian mid-century tradition where functional objects were elevated by refined material use and elegant proportions. Glas & Trä, based in the small town of Hovmantorp, was primarily known for high-quality household furnishings, combining Swedish glassmaking with skilled woodwork. Their mirrors often balanced practicality with sculptural appeal, intended for both domestic interiors and modern public spaces.

The present piece is in good vintage condition with minor signs of use consistent with its age. The surface of the teak has developed a rich patina, enhancing the depth and character of the frame. The glass remains clear and intact, retaining the original manufacturer’s label on the reverse, marked “G&T” with details referring to “VA kristallglas” underscoring the quality of the crystal glass employed.

Dimensions: width 44.5 cm (17.5 inches), depth 5.5 cm (2.2 inches), height 97 cm (38.2 inches).
