Poul Cadovius bookcase
This ‘Cado’ wall system/bookcase, designed by Poul Cadovius and produced in Denmark during the 1960s, is a hallmark of Scandinavian mid-century modern design. Crafted from rosewood, the modular framework allows for flexible configuration, blending functionality with a visually striking aesthetic. It features open shelving, cabinets with sliding glass doors, and storage compartments with sliding panels in yellow and black, providing a subtle yet effective contrast to the warm wood grain.
Poul Cadovius (1911–2011) was a pioneering Danish designer celebrated for his innovative storage systems that combined modularity with elegant minimalism. His designs, including the Royal and Cado systems, redefined space efficiency and aesthetic clarity in Danish modern furniture.
The rosewood exhibits a rich natural grain, while the shelving brackets and supports are discreetly integrated to maintain clean, structural lines. The glass-front cabinets enhance openness, balancing the enclosed storage areas for a harmonious composition.
This piece is in very good vintage condition, showing minor wear consistent with age and use.
