Information

This rare pair of “Guvenör” easy chairs was designed by Poul Cadovius and produced by France & Son in Denmark. A distinctive example of Danish Modern design, the model combines a strongly architectural rosewood construction with generously upholstered black leather.

The chairs are characterized by their substantial rectangular frames, with broad side and rear panels executed in richly figured rosewood. These panels feature an unusual geometric parquetry treatment, creating a finely textured surface that contrasts with the otherwise restrained construction. The rosewood displays considerable variation in grain and tone, particularly visible across the large exterior panels.

The frame is raised on distinctive open rectangular legs, giving the substantial body a lighter appearance. Carefully executed joinery provides another decorative element, with contrasting finger-joint details visible at the feet. The combination of precise cabinetmaking and graphic proportions gives the chairs a particularly architectural character.

Original black leather cushions form the seat, backrest, and generously padded armrests. Buttoned upholstery on the seat and back introduces softness to the rectilinear rosewood structure, while the naturally developed creasing and patina of the leather complement the warmth of the timber.

The chairs retain their France & Son labels and are preserved in excellent vintage condition, with only small signs of use consistent with age. A matching three-seat sofa from the same Guvenör series is also available, allowing the chairs to be presented as part of a complete seating group.
