Poul Nørreklit side table

This rare side table was designed by Danish architect and designer Poul Nørreklit and produced by Georg Petersens Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1970s. The piece exemplifies Nørreklit’s dedication to clean, geometric forms combined with a refined appreciation for exotic hardwoods, particularly rosewood, which is a hallmark of his work from this period.

Constructed as a perfect cube, each side measures 41.5 cm (16.3 inches), emphasizing the purity of its minimalist volume. The table showcases richly figured rosewood veneer with carefully matched grain patterns that flow uninterrupted across the surfaces, revealing deep dark streaks and complex figuring. Sharp mitred corners and flush edges reflect exacting craftsmanship, presenting an architectural clarity free from visible hardware or seams.

The finish is a satin lacquer that enriches the rosewood’s warm reddish and chocolate tones, allowing natural variations and depth to emerge subtly under light. The table is in original condition with only minor surface wear visible upon close inspection. A partially preserved production label from Georg Petersens Møbelfabrik is present on the underside, authenticating its Danish origin.

Though not as internationally renowned as some Scandinavian contemporaries, his work is highly regarded in Denmark for its material quality and formal rigor.
