Information

This very rare glass vase, model Slöjdansen, was designed by Simon Gate and produced by Orrefors in Sweden. The piece is signed Orrefors Gate 109 25 KR, indicating the hand of master engraver Karl Rössler, one of Gate’s most esteemed collaborators. Created in 1918, this work exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and artistic innovation that defined Orrefors during the early years of Swedish art glass production.

The vase is executed in clear glass, delicately engraved with a frieze of nude figures dancing in rhythmic motion — a recurring motif in Gate’s work that captures the ideals of harmony, grace, and vitality associated with the neoclassical revival of the early 20th century. The figures are rendered with extraordinary precision and sensitivity, their flowing movements enhanced by the translucence of the glass and the subtle contrast between matte and polished surfaces.

Slöjdansen represents the pinnacle of Orrefors’ graal and engraving techniques, where art and utility merge seamlessly into an object of timeless elegance. The interplay between light and shadow within the etched relief creates a sense of depth and animation, transforming the vase into a living tableau when illuminated.

This example remains in good vintage condition, with only minor signs of use and a small nick on the accompanying plate.
