Thomas Valentiner floor lamps
This very rare pair of floor lamps, model THV-376, was designed by Thomas Valentiner and produced for Poul Dinesen in Denmark during the 1960s. The design exemplifies mid-century Scandinavian aesthetics through its clean lines, functional adjustability, and use of quality materials. Each lamp features a slender brass frame supporting two adjustable conical fabric shades that offer precise directional lighting.
The brass construction comprises a vertical stem paired with an articulated horizontal arm, adjustable via a central mechanism to reposition the shades as needed. The original fabric shades are gently tapered, mounted on pivoting brass fittings that allow for flexible light control. Their warm off-white color diffuses light softly, creating ambient illumination. The brass surfaces have developed a natural patina, reflecting their vintage origin, while the fabric shades show minor staining consistent with age and use.
Thomas Valentiner was a noted Danish designer recognized for combining elegance with functionality in lighting design. His collaboration with Poul Dinesen, a respected Danish manufacturer, resulted in fixtures that marry refined craftsmanship with timeless style. The THV-376 model embodies the Danish mid-century emphasis on practicality without sacrificing design integrity.
The lamps are in well-preserved condition, showing expected age-related wear. They measure 30 cm in width, 75 cm in depth, and 138 cm in height (11.8 x 29.5 x 54.3 inches), making them ideal as reading or accent lights.
