Vilhelm Lauritzen table lamps
This rare pair of table lamps was designed by Danish architect and designer Vilhelm Lauritzen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark during the 1940s. Crafted from brass and vinyl, these lamps embody Lauritzen’s refined approach to lighting, which emphasized functionalism and the use of high-quality materials.
Each lamp features an organically shaped brass shade designed to direct light downward while reducing glare. The shades are mounted on gently curved brass arms connected to a vertically ribbed section covered in green vinyl, providing a distinct contrast of texture and color. The lamps stand on weighted circular brass bases that ensure stability and house the original switch mechanisms. The brass has developed a warm patina over time, enhancing the lamps’ vintage character.
Vilhelm Lauritzen was a pivotal figure in Danish modernism, renowned for his work in functionalist architecture and lighting design. His collaborations with Louis Poulsen produced some of the most iconic Scandinavian lighting of the mid-20th century, combining simplicity with atmospheric illumination.
These lamps exemplify mid-century Scandinavian modern lighting, showcasing meticulous craftsmanship and a sculptural yet practical design. Each lamp measures 15 cm in width, 38 cm in depth, and 48.5 cm in height (5.9 x 15 x 19.1 inches) and remains in original vintage condition, with age-appropriate patina and wear.
