Information

This rare pair of easy chairs, model Bastiano, was designed by Tobia Scarpa and produced by Haimi in Finland. These mid-century Scandinavian lounge chairs exemplify refined craftsmanship and timeless design. Each chair features a solid rosewood frame paired with its original black leather upholstery.

The geometric rosewood frame showcases a warm, rich grain that highlights natural wood variations. The frame consists of thick, precisely joined components, with visible brass fittings that enhance both durability and aesthetic detail. The open sides and slightly recessed base create a visually floating effect while ensuring structural stability.

The cushions, upholstered in original black leather, display a supple texture and a natural patina developed through gentle wear. Both seat and back cushions are generously filled, offering comfort while preserving the design’s structured form.

Tobia Scarpa, an Italian designer known for blending traditional materials with modernist forms, created the Bastiano series as an elegant and accessible seating solution. Originally designed for Gavina in Italy, the model was later produced under license by Haimi in Finland, making this pair a rare Scandinavian interpretation of Scarpa’s design.

Each chair measures 91 cm in width, 78 cm in depth, and 66 cm in height (35.8 by 30.7 by 26 inches), with a seat height of 37 cm (14.6 inches), combining comfort, craftsmanship, and classic mid-century style.
