Preben Thorsen easy chairs
This very rare pair of easy chairs, designed by Preben Thorsen and produced by Morten Olsen & Son in Denmark in 1957, showcases an innovative and distinctive approach to chair construction. The design features two separate oak components that interlock seamlessly to create a stable and sculptural structure. The solid oak frames reveal the natural grain and warm tones of the wood, demonstrating the high craftsmanship typical of Danish mid-century furniture.
The chairs present an angular and geometric profile, with outwardly splayed legs that not only enhance stability but also contribute to their striking visual presence. The seats and backrests are woven from cane, providing a lightweight and breathable surface that contrasts organically with the solid wood frame. This woven texture adds a tactile and natural element, enriching the overall design while maintaining comfort and durability.
The chairs are preserved in very good condition, bearing a natural patina that reflects their age and careful use over the decades. Their thoughtful construction and balanced proportions highlight Preben Thorsen’s skill in combining innovative structural design with Scandinavian aesthetic values.
The dimensions of each chair are 61 cm in width, 72 cm in depth, and 78.5 cm in height (24 x 28.3 x 30.9 inches), with a seat height of 37 cm (14.6 inches).
