Arne Jacobsen floor lamp
This very rare early floor lamp was designed by Arne Jacobsen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark during the 1950s. It embodies the clean, functionalist aesthetic typical of mid-century Scandinavian design, highlighting adjustability, elegant proportions, and quality materials. The lamp features a slender brass stem rising from a circular weighted base, paired with a conical lacquered metal shade.
The height of the stem is adjustable, extending from 115 cm to 142 cm (45.3 to 55.9 inches), allowing for versatile use as either reading or accent lighting. The shade is mounted on a flexible gooseneck arm, enabling precise directional control. The original lacquer finish on the shade has aged with a soft patina, consistent with the lamp’s vintage character. The brass components exhibit a natural aged surface that further enhances its historic appeal.
Arne Jacobsen, a seminal Danish architect and designer, collaborated extensively with Louis Poulsen, producing lighting designs that are regarded as icons of modernist design. This early floor lamp exemplifies his approach to merging timeless simplicity with practical function.
The lamp is in well-preserved vintage condition, showing minor wear on the lacquer and expected signs of use for its age. Its dimensions are 18 cm wide, 40 cm deep, with an adjustable height from 115 to 142 cm (7.1 x 15.7 x 45.3–55.9 inches).
