Cabinet

Information

This rare cabinet, produced in Denmark during the 1960s by an unknown designer, is a refined example of mid-century Scandinavian cabinetry distinguished by its balance of functional clarity and subtle sculptural detail.

Constructed predominantly from teak, the cabinet displays a warm reddish-brown tone with vertically aligned grain that lends a sense of rhythm and uniformity. It is elevated on four slender, tapered legs and supported by a contrasting lighter teak stretcher frame, which adds both structural stability and a delicate visual separation from the main body.

The front is organized into four sliding doors arranged in a symmetrical two-by-two grid. Each door features a reverse-beveled teak frame encasing a concave-faced grey lacquered or laminated panel, creating a gentle bowing effect that enhances depth and light play on the surface. The panels’ curvature subtly animates the otherwise planar façade, contributing a tactile and architectural quality.

The sliding doors incorporate recessed, carved pulls integrated directly into the teak frames, maintaining the cabinet’s clean lines and understated elegance. Behind the upper doors, there is shelving and shallow drawers for organized storage, finished in a lighter birch or beech veneer that contrasts gently with the darker exterior.

This piece sits at the intersection of Danish functionalist cabinetry and decorative modernism, where practical storage is elevated through sculptural form and a nuanced material palette. The cabinet remains in very good vintage condition with minor surface wear typical of age, light irregularities on the lacquered panels, and smoothly operating sliding mechanisms.

Dimensions: 125 cm wide, 42 cm deep, and 140 cm high (approximately 49.2 x 16.5 x 55.1 inches).
