Information

This freestanding bar cabinet was produced in Denmark during the 1960s and is a distinctive example of mid-century Scandinavian furniture design. Constructed primarily from teak, the cabinet features a clean rectilinear volume elevated on a finely proportioned base with gently tapering legs and diagonally braced stretchers that lend it a light yet stable presence. The cabinet’s teak surfaces exhibit a deep reddish-brown tone with a warm grain pattern and matte patina characteristic of well-aged, oiled wood.

The front of the cabinet is defined by a pair of sculpted, vertically recessed handles that curve inward to meet at the center, providing both a tactile and visual focus. When opened, the double doors reveal an illuminated interior fitted with glass shelves supported by brass vertical rails. The back panel is mirrored and etched with circular motifs, producing a subtle graphic interplay when viewed through the transparent shelving. The cabinet interior also incorporates shelving on the inside of each door, with curved maple wood fronts and black laminate bases, ideal for storing bottles or glassware securely.

The integration of lighting within the cabinet adds both function and ambiance, a detail that reflects the attention to modern living environments in postwar Scandinavian design. The combination of materials—solid and veneered teak, brass fittings, glass shelving, and etched mirror—embodies the refined elegance and restrained opulence associated with Danish furniture from this period.

Although the designer of this piece remains unidentified, the craftsmanship and design language align with high-quality Danish cabinetmaking traditions, likely originating from a specialized workshop or smaller-scale producer active during the height of Danish modernism in the 1950s and 60s.

The cabinet is in excellent vintage condition, with the woodwork well-preserved and the interior fittings intact and fully functional.
