Simon Gate glass vase
This exceptionally rare glass vase, designed by Simon Gate and produced by Orrefors in Sweden in 1918, is a remarkable example of early 20th-century Scandinavian glass artistry. Crafted from clear glass and decorated with finely etched motifs, it showcases Gate’s signature blend of classical influence and modernist refinement. The body of the vase features intricate engraved scenes of reclining figures surrounded by stylized botanical patterns, demonstrating the precision and delicacy of Orrefors’ glass engraving techniques during this pioneering period.
A true collector’s piece, this work reflects the height of Swedish glass design from the early modernist era and embodies the collaboration between designer and craftsman that defined Orrefors’ legacy. Its sculptural form, with a gently flared rim and soft curvature, gives the piece an elegant, almost architectural presence while remaining understated and refined.
The vase remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of age and wear consistent with its more than century-old history.
