Poul Nørreklit desk
This very rare freestanding desk, model GP 160, was designed by Poul Nørreklit and produced by Georg Petersens Møbelfabrik in Denmark in 1970. The design is a striking example of Nørreklit’s avant-garde modernism, combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative use of industrial materials.
The desk features a rectangular top in richly grained rosewood, framed by clean, minimalist lines. The front contains three drawers with brushed steel fronts and circular metal pulls, demonstrating Nørreklit’s precise sense of proportion and restrained detailing. The structure rests on two solid, transparent plexiglass side panels connected by a horizontal support beam, giving the desk a floating and sculptural presence. The contrast between the organic warmth of rosewood and the cool transparency of plexiglass captures the futuristic aesthetic of late Danish modernism, blending functionality with visual lightness.
Produced by Georg Petersens Møbelfabrik, one of Denmark’s notable cabinetmakers known for their meticulous standards, this desk represents a synthesis of fine woodworking and material innovation. The model GP 160 is among Nørreklit’s most recognized designs and remains highly sought after for its architectural elegance and rarity.
The piece is in good vintage condition with small signs of age and use. The plexiglass retains its clarity with light surface wear, while the rosewood top exhibits a deep, even patina consistent with age.
