Information

This rare bureau, model 34, was designed by Danish cabinetmaker and designer Kai Kristiansen and produced by Aksel Kjersgaard in Odder, Denmark, during the 1950s. Crafted in richly grained rosewood, the piece exemplifies the high-quality craftsmanship and refined material sensibility that define mid-century Danish furniture design.

The bureau features three drawers with Kristiansen’s signature sculpted handles, seamlessly integrated into the front panels to maintain a clean, continuous surface. The softly curved drawer fronts introduce a tactile depth and a dynamic play of light across the rosewood’s natural patterning. The structure rests on slender, tapered legs that elevate the composition and contribute to its overall sense of lightness and proportion.

Kai Kristiansen, trained under Kaare Klint, was one of Denmark’s most versatile designers, known for combining functional clarity with sculptural precision. His collaboration with Aksel Kjersgaard produced several iconic furniture models—pieces that remain celebrated for their architectural elegance and exceptional joinery.

This example is preserved in excellent vintage condition, with minimal signs of use and a beautifully aged patina in the wood.
