Folke Jansson sofa
This rare sofa model Tellus was designed by Folke Jansson and produced by SM Wincrantz in Sweden during the 1950s. The piece exemplifies the sculptural and organic forms that characterized Scandinavian design of the mid-century period. Its curved, enveloping silhouette and softly rounded back create a balanced composition between comfort and elegance. The seat rests on four black lacquered conical legs, each finished with a small brass ball foot, adding a subtle touch of refinement and contrast.
The upholstery has been recently renewed in a high-quality wool fabric. The combination of a light beige main textile and a mustard yellow seat cushion emphasizes the design’s gentle contours while bringing a distinct, modern tonal contrast. The tactile wool fabric enhances the organic feel of the form, and the bright yellow hue provides a warm focal point that enlivens the otherwise neutral composition.
Folke Jansson was known for his ability to combine sculptural expression with functional purpose, producing works that captured the progressive spirit of Swedish modernism. His designs often conveyed a sense of lightness and motion while maintaining structural integrity and comfort. The Tellus model reflects this approach through its flowing lines and harmonious proportions, characteristics that align with the post-war Scandinavian focus on human-centered design and craftsmanship.
The sofa is in excellent vintage condition with only small signs of age-related use. Its restoration has been carried out with attention to historical accuracy and material authenticity, preserving its mid-century character while ensuring lasting functionality.
