Information

This rare pair of easy chairs was designed by Ole Wanscher and produced by France & Son in Denmark during the 1950s. The chairs feature solid rosewood frames that display a rich, dark grain with a warm patina, enhancing the natural texture and elegance of the wood. The frames are characterized by smooth, sculpted lines, including subtly curved armrests that flow seamlessly into the overall structure.

The seating retains the original black leather upholstery, which is well-preserved, exhibiting a soft sheen and natural creasing indicative of age and authenticity. The cushions are generously padded, offering both comfort and support, while the slightly reclined backrests promote a relaxed posture. Structural stability is ensured by rear horizontal stretchers and angled back legs, all while maintaining a light and refined silhouette.

Ole Wanscher was a pivotal figure in Danish modernism, celebrated for designs that married traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics. His collaboration with France & Son, a leading Danish furniture manufacturer, produced meticulously crafted pieces known for durability and timeless elegance. This pair of chairs exemplifies Wanscher’s dedication to functional beauty and quality.

The chairs are in very good vintage condition, showing signs of use consistent with their age. Each chair measures 67 cm in width, 77 cm in depth, and 80 cm in height (26.4 x 30.3 x 31.5 inches), with a seat height of 43 cm (16.9 inches).
