Werner Schou attrib. floor lamps

This pair of floor lamps is attributed to Danish designer Werner Schou and was produced in Denmark during the 1960s. The design is defined by a strong vertical presence and a geometric interplay of light and materials. Each lamp features a tall, slender shaft crafted from black lacquered metal, supported by a triangular metal base with softly rounded corners. The lamps’ slim proportions and considerable height create a striking silhouette while maintaining a minimal footprint.

The lampshades are constructed from alternating vertical slats of copper and black-painted metal, arranged in a square grid pattern that partially encloses the light source. This arrangement allows light to escape laterally between the slats, casting warm reflections off the copper interiors. When illuminated, the lamps produce a patterned ambient glow characterized by distinctive striping and shadow effects, highlighting the contrast between the metallic warmth of the copper and the matte black structural elements.

Werner Schou was recognized for his sculptural lighting designs, often produced through his company Coronell Elektro or in collaboration with other Danish manufacturers. His work is noted for combining polished or oxidized metals with clear geometric forms that emphasize both light diffusion and architectural composition.

The pair is in very good vintage condition, showing minor wear consistent with age. This includes some surface marks on the lacquer and light patination on the copper elements. Both lamps remain structurally sound and fully functional.
