Gunnar Nylund bowl

This ceramic bowl, model ARO, was designed by Gunnar Nylund and produced by Rörstrand in Sweden during the 1960s. It exemplifies Scandinavian mid-century ceramic art through its organic form and distinctive glaze technique.

The bowl has an oval shape with gently undulating contours and an asymmetric lip that imparts a sense of movement and softness. Gunnar Nylund (1904–1997) was a prominent Swedish ceramicist and sculptor renowned for his work with both Rörstrand and Nymolle. His designs emphasized simplicity, natural motifs, and innovative glazing methods. Nylund played a key role in defining Sweden’s mid-century ceramic aesthetic, with his work highly regarded for its artistic subtlety and craftsmanship.

Rörstrand, founded in 1726, is one of Sweden’s oldest porcelain manufacturers and was a leader in artistic ceramics during the 20th century. The company collaborated with many influential designers, with Nylund being central to its mid-century design development.
