Frits Henningsen easy chairs
This rare pair of easy chairs was designed and produced by the Danish cabinetmaker Frits Henningsen in the 1930s. The chairs are crafted from solid oak with a warm, darkened finish and upholstered in original patinated leather, which displays a rich, deep brown tone. The leather has developed a beautiful surface character over time, with visible creases, natural wear, and marks that contribute to the authenticity and charm of the pieces.
The design reflects Henningsen’s signature style, with gently curved armrests, elegant cabriole front legs, and a slightly flared backrest that gives the chairs a graceful silhouette. The upholstery is secured with a row of decorative brass nailheads along the seat frame, a detail characteristic of Henningsen’s craftsmanship. The cushions remain comfortably supportive, and the proportions provide a generous yet upright seating experience.
Frits Henningsen (1889–1965) was known for his uncompromising quality and traditional cabinetmaking skills, producing furniture in his own workshop in Copenhagen. His work often bridged the gap between 19th-century craftsmanship and modern Danish functionalism, favoring classic, timeless forms over experimental trends. This pair of chairs embodies that philosophy, merging high-quality materials with a refined, understated aesthetic.
The chairs are in good vintage condition, with signs of use consistent with their age, including wear to the leather and minor surface marks to the wood frame. The overall patina enhances their historical presence and reflects nearly a century of careful use.
