Kai Kristiansen bureau

This side table or bureau, model 394, was designed by Danish architect and designer Kai Kristiansen and produced by Aksel Kjersgaard in Odder, Denmark during the 1950s. It is a refined example of Scandinavian mid-century modernism, constructed entirely from solid and veneered rosewood. The piece displays a deep reddish-brown tone with highly expressive grain patterns, especially prominent on the front and top surfaces.

The design features a clean, rectilinear form elevated on slim square legs with subtly softened corners, imparting a sense of visual lightness. It includes two wide drawers, each equipped with round, recessed handles—an iconic detail in Kristiansen’s work that combines functional ease with clear design language.
