Information

This rare set of three nesting tables was designed by Kurt Østervig and produced by Jason Møbler in Denmark during the 1960s. The tables are crafted in rosewood with black formica insets, displaying the precision, material richness, and geometric balance that defined Østervig’s work. Each table fits neatly under the next, creating a functional and elegant composition adaptable to various interior settings.

The tables feature rectangular tops with softly rounded edges, framed in solid rosewood with visible grain patterns. The contrasting black formica surfaces add a refined modernist character while offering a durable, practical finish suitable for daily use. The legs are squared and taper slightly toward the base, connected by cross-stretchers that ensure structural stability and visual rhythm. The set carries the Danish Furnituremakers’ Control mark, certifying the high craftsmanship standard maintained in its production.

Kurt Østervig (1912–1986) was a trained shipbuilder who turned to furniture design in the mid-20th century. His works often display architectural precision and material integrity, combining practical construction with sculptural form. Østervig collaborated with several leading Danish furniture manufacturers, including Jason Møbler, Randers Møbelfabrik, and KP Møbler, contributing significantly to the legacy of Danish modern design.

This set remains in good vintage condition, with minor signs of wear consistent with age and use. The rosewood frames retain a deep, even patina, and the formica surfaces are well-preserved. The nesting design exemplifies the space-efficient and elegantly minimal aesthetic that defined Scandinavian furniture in the postwar period.
