Kurt Østervig nesting tables
This set of three nesting tables was designed by Kurt Østervig and produced by Jason Møbler in Denmark during the 1960s. Crafted from solid teak with veneered tops, the tables exhibit the warm, rich reddish-brown tones and linear grain patterns typical of high-quality teak wood. The design is characterized by a clean, minimal aesthetic, featuring slender, tapering legs and precise joinery. The largest table includes a gently raised edge around the tabletop perimeter, subtly framing the surface and serving a practical function by preventing objects from sliding off.
The tables nest efficiently beneath one another, each decreasing slightly in size, offering a flexible and space-saving solution aligned with Scandinavian modernist principles. Despite their lightweight construction, the tables remain stable, with softly rounded edges and a slightly concave apron that contribute to a tactile and visually balanced appearance.
Kurt Østervig (1912–1986) was a Danish designer known for combining functional design with expressive, organic elements. His background as a shipbuilder influenced his meticulous approach to construction and durability. Throughout his career, Østervig worked with several respected Danish manufacturers, maintaining a focus on craftsmanship and the use of natural materials.
Jason Møbler, active during the peak of Denmark’s furniture design movement, produced quality woodwork with clean-lined aesthetics that complemented the Danish modern ethos, collaborating with prominent designers like Østervig.
This set is in very good condition, showing only light wear consistent with age and use, including minor surface marks on the tabletops. The structural integrity of the tables remains excellent.
The largest table measures 80 cm in width, 36 cm in depth, and 50.5 cm in height, approximately 31.5 inches wide, 14.2 inches deep, and 19.9 inches high.
