Henry Rosengren Hansen sideboard
This very rare sideboard, designed by Henry Rosengren Hansen and produced by Brande Møbelindustri in Denmark during the 1950s, exemplifies the precision and elegance of Scandinavian mid-century cabinetry. Constructed from richly figured rosewood, it is a standout piece characterized by its elongated proportions, meticulous joinery, and subtle sculptural detailing.
The form of the sideboard is horizontal and rectilinear, giving it a sleek, modern profile. It rests on tapering, conical legs that elevate the piece, reducing its visual mass and allowing the overall design to maintain a light, airy appearance despite its substantial length. The front is symmetrically arranged, featuring two flanking cupboards with bookmatched doors and a central bank of five drawers. The drawers are designed with carved, integrated wooden pulls, each with an organic contour that complements the natural grain of the rosewood. The cupboard doors, particularly on the right side, are fitted with sculptural, protruding handles that are both visually striking and ergonomically functional. The rosewood’s warm tones range from medium brown to deeper chocolate hues, with prominent black figuring. The grain pattern is especially expressive on the drawer fronts and doors, where it has been carefully arranged to highlight symmetry and continuity.
Internally, the sideboard offers a well-considered layout with adjustable shelving and ample storage compartments, showcasing the designer’s focus on both functional planning and interior craftsmanship. The cabinet’s construction is refined, with concealed hinges, clean mitred corners, and fully veneered interior surfaces, ensuring the piece is as meticulously finished on the inside as it is on the outside.

The piece is in excellent condition, showing only minor signs of age-appropriate wear. Its original finish remains well-preserved, further enhancing the rich beauty of the rosewood.
