Information

This is a rare set of wall lamps, model Saga, designed by Kay Kørbing and produced by Lyfa in Denmark in 1960. The lamps feature a cylindrical brass top section, a black lacquered metal housing, and a clear glass shade with a distinctive angled cut. The combination of materials creates a striking contrast between the warm polished brass, the matte black finish, and the transparency of the glass. The composition is functional yet decorative, with an architectural quality typical of Danish lighting design of the period.

Kay Kørbing was an architect and designer whose lighting designs often balanced minimalism with sculptural expression. The Saga model reflects a mid-century Scandinavian approach to wall-mounted lighting, where the emphasis was on clean lines, high-quality materials, and a pleasant diffusion of light. When lit, the glass shade produces a soft, warm glow that highlights its elliptical edge, giving the fixture a refined and atmospheric presence.

Lyfa, one of Denmark’s leading lighting manufacturers during the 20th century, was known for collaborating with important designers to create technically sophisticated and aesthetically forward-looking lamps. The Saga model stands as an example of Lyfa’s ability to combine industrial precision with an elegant modernist sensibility.

The lamps are in good vintage condition, with light signs of wear and patina consistent with age. The lacquered metal retains its finish with minor surface marks, and the brass shows a natural, even aging that adds depth to the overall appearance.

Each lamp measures 10 x 13.5 x 36.5 cm (3.9 x 5.3 x 14.4 inches).
