Percival Lafer attrib. table
Rare and heavy side or coffee table attributed to Brazilian designer Percival Lafer, produced in Brazil during the mid-20th century.
The table is made entirely of solid hardwood with a deep, rich tone and finely restored surface. Its design reflects the distinctive qualities of Brazilian modernism, where robust materials and simple geometric forms are combined with careful attention to joinery and proportion. The tabletop is composed of two slightly separated planks resting on a solid frame with thick, angled legs, emphasizing strength and balance. The visible structure and clean detailing demonstrate a precise understanding of the natural material and its sculptural potential.
Percival Lafer (born 1936) is known for his innovative and enduring contributions to Brazilian modern design, combining craftsmanship with a modern industrial approach. His work often employed native hardwoods and bold architectural lines, expressing both functionalism and the warmth of handcrafted furniture.
This example has been completely restored and is presented in good condition, with a smooth surface and preserved natural character of the wood. The table measures 77.5 cm in length (30.5 inches), 84.5 cm in width (33.3 inches), and 42.5 cm in height (16.7 inches).
