Svend Langkilde bar cabinet

This wall-mounted bar cabinet is constructed in rosewood with solid brass fittings and was designed by Svend Langkilde for Langkilde Møbler in Denmark. The cabinet shows the characteristic rich grain of rosewood, with deep brown and reddish tones arranged in symmetrical patterns across the door fronts and side panels. The joinery is precise, with rounded front edges and recessed handles integrated into the vertical door panels. Brass hinges and a brass lock add functional detailing while contributing to the cabinet’s refined material palette.

The interior is finished in matching rosewood and is organized with shelves integrated into each door, a small internal drawer, and an additional pull-out shelf surfaced in black Formica. This slide-out surface functions as a serving or preparation area when the cabinet is open. The layout reflects the Danish mid-century emphasis on compact functionality, with all elements built into a relatively small footprint while maintaining a clean and restrained appearance.

Langkilde Møbler was known for high-quality cabinetry and precise craftsmanship, and Svend Langkilde’s designs often combine traditional cabinetmaking with contemporary Scandinavian proportions. The present piece reflects this approach through its use of solid materials, hand-finished brass hardware, and a structural clarity that emphasizes the natural figure of the rosewood. The form is compact and geometric, intended to be wall-mounted and used as a discrete bar or storage cabinet within a living or dining interior.

The cabinet measures 70 cm in width, 30 cm in depth, and 50 cm in height, corresponding to approximately 27.6 inches by 11.8 inches by 19.7 inches. It remains in excellent vintage condition with small signs of use consistent with age.
