Erik Höglund dressing table
This rare dressing table with integrated mirror was designed by Erik Höglund and produced by Kopparfly in Sweden during the 1960s. The piece is executed in solid pine, presenting the warm tone, linear grain structure, and natural surface variation characteristic of Scandinavian softwood furniture from this period. The table features a rectangular top supported by a central cylindrical column that branches into three angled feet, giving the structure stability while maintaining a visually light and geometric appearance.
The oval mirror is framed in pine and mounted within a double curved support that allows the mirror to tilt. The construction highlights the designer’s interest in simple joinery and exposed wood elements. The table incorporates two shallow drawers, each fitted with a turned wooden knob. These drawers contribute to its functional use as a dressing table while keeping the overall design minimal and clean.
Erik Höglund, known primarily for his work in glass, also explored furniture and interior objects that reflected a rustic, handcrafted sensibility. Kopparfly, the Swedish manufacturer, often collaborated with designers who valued natural materials and straightforward construction methods. This model was retailed at Illums Bolighus in Denmark, one of the most influential Scandinavian design stores of the mid-century era, which contributed to the distribution of innovative Nordic craftsmanship.
The mirror frame, drawer fronts, and base all present nuanced grain patterns and tonal variations. The piece shows signs of age and handling, including surface wear and patina consistent with vintage furniture in original condition.
Dimensions are 55 cm wide, 43 cm deep, and 129.5 cm high, corresponding to approximately 21.7 x 16.9 x 51 inches. The tabletop height is 68 cm, or about 26.8 inches.
