Floor lamps
This rare pair of floor lamps, produced by Fog & Mørup in Denmark, embodies the sculptural and elegant sensibility associated with Danish mid-century modern lighting, despite the designer remaining unidentified. The lamps feature a dynamic brass framework composed of three slender, curved arms extending from a central base. Each arm supports a single light source, culminating in newly made fabric lampshades that softly diffuse the light.
The form is organic and fluid, with the gently arcing arms giving the lamps an impression of upward movement, as though captured in a state of natural growth or unfolding. The design reflects a careful attention to proportion and visual rhythm, with each element contributing to a cohesive and harmonious composition. The lamps function both as light sources and decorative sculptures, their branching forms making them visually impactful while retaining a sense of delicacy.
The brass structure retains its original finish, exhibiting a warm, golden tone with a soft patina developed over time. This aged surface quality contributes to the authenticity and charm of the lamps, while also highlighting the quality of the materials used in their construction. The lamps remain fully functional, with the brass arms and joints in excellent structural condition.
Each of the three arms is adjustable, allowing for flexible positioning and directional lighting. The new shades are fabricated in a soft white fabric, chosen to complement the aged brass and maintain the mid-century character of the pieces. The shades are cleanly tailored and proportionally scaled to the arms, ensuring a seamless integration into the original design.
While the designer of these lamps remains unknown, the build quality, aesthetic language, and material choices align closely with the output of Fog & Mørup during the 1950s and 1960s, a period in which the company was renowned for producing high-end modernist lighting. These lamps reflect that era’s focus on elegance, craftsmanship, and subtle complexity.
Each lamp measures 163.5 cm in height with an overall span of approximately 80 cm in diameter. In inches, these dimensions translate to roughly 64.4 inches high and 31.5 inches in diameter.
