Table mirror

This rare freestanding table mirror was produced in Sweden during the 1940s. The mirror features a vertically mounted rectangular glass plate with rounded corners, securely held in place by a custom-made brass frame and bracket system. The reflective surface is clear, with only minor signs of age, and the design allows for angle adjustment via a brass hinge mechanism that connects the rear support to the frame, enabling flexibility for different viewing angles.

The base of the mirror is made from solid stone, likely a type of Swedish marble or limestone. The stone has a warm reddish-brown hue, with lighter veining running through it. The base is asymmetrically rounded, introducing a subtle organic element to the piece, which contrasts with the otherwise industrial and functional aesthetic. The support column, made of patinated brass, is fixed to the base with exposed fasteners, emphasizing the craftsmanship and utilitarian nature typical of early Scandinavian modernism.

The back of the mirror is finished in mahogany veneer, offering a rich contrast to the metal components and grounding the piece within the material palette commonly found in 1940s Scandinavian interiors. While the designer remains unknown, the combination of natural stone, hardwood, and aged brass aligns with the high-quality decorative arts produced in Sweden during the interwar and postwar periods, particularly in personal accessories and vanity furnishings.
