Jørgen Lund & Ole Larsen sofa
This rare sofa, model Bo-911, was designed by Jørgen Lund and Ole Larsen in Denmark during the 1960s. Produced in very small numbers by Bo-Ex, the model is closely related to the matching pair of easy chairs from the same series, forming a coherent group of seating furniture that reflects the modernist ideals of its time.
The frame is constructed in matt-chromed steel, bent into a continuous square tubular form that gives the piece a light but durable structure. The seat and backrest are generously cushioned and upholstered in brown leather. The leather has developed a natural surface patina, with visible signs of use that emphasize the material’s authenticity and age. The armrests are finished with leather-wrapped detailing, providing both comfort and a visual balance to the cool steel frame.
The Bo-911 series illustrates Lund and Larsen’s ability to combine functional clarity with sculptural restraint. The sofa’s low, wide proportions and open form make it both practical and visually refined. The contrast between the industrial qualities of the steel frame and the softness of the leather reflects the broader tendencies in Scandinavian design of the period, where international modernism was reinterpreted with an emphasis on comfort and tactility.
This example remains in good vintage condition with signs of wear consistent with use, presenting an attractive patina that highlights the original quality of materials. Together with the rare matching chairs, the Bo-911 sofa represents one of the more distinctive Scandinavian interpretations of modernist seating from the 1960s.
