Mirror
This large vertical wall mirror was produced by Glas & Trä Hovmantorp in Sweden during the 1950s. The frame is constructed from solid pine, displaying a warm amber tone and pronounced natural grain typical of Scandinavian softwoods. Its design features elongated, tapered vertical sides that extend beyond the horizontal top and bottom rails, creating a sculptural and balanced silhouette that accentuates the mirror’s height and symmetry. The frame is notably deep, with a beveled edge facing the mirror glass, adding subtle dimensionality to the piece.
Although the designer is unknown, the mirror embodies key elements of mid-century Scandinavian design: minimal ornamentation, a strong focus on craftsmanship, and the use of natural materials. Glas & Trä Hovmantorp was a respected Swedish manufacturer active in the mid-20th century, known for producing quality furnishings and interior fittings.
The mirror is in good vintage condition, showing minor wear consistent with its age. The finish is well-preserved, and the glass appears original, free from replacement or significant damage.
Measuring 37 centimeters (14.6 inches) in width, 7 centimeters (2.8 inches) in depth, and 120 centimeters (47.2 inches) in height, this mirror is a refined example of Scandinavian design combining function and understated elegance.
