Henrik Blomqvist was a Swedish lighting designer associated with AB Stilarmatur in Tranås during the 1950s and 1960s. He is best known for table lamps and floor lamps that combine brass, opal glass, coloured glass, and wood in clear, decorative forms. His work reflects the postwar development of Swedish lighting design, where functional illumination was often paired with refined materials, balanced proportions, and a strong sense of modern elegance.

Biography

Henrik Blomqvist worked during a period when Swedish lighting manufacturers produced lamps for both private homes and public interiors. He became particularly associated with AB Stilarmatur in Tranås, a company known for high-quality lighting in brass, glass, and wood. While little biographical information about Blomqvist’s personal life has been widely published, his name is strongly connected to Stilarmatur’s production from the mid-20th century.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Blomqvist designed lamps that often used spherical, baluster-shaped, or stacked forms. His designs frequently combined polished or patinated brass with opal glass, coloured glass, mahogany, rosewood, wenge, or other woods. This use of contrasting materials gave his lamps both warmth and structure, while maintaining a clean Scandinavian expression.
