Information

This rare and well-preserved pair of model “Lars” easy chairs was designed by Danish furniture designer Niels Kofoed and produced by his own workshop, Niels Kofoed Hornslet, in Denmark during the 1960s. The frames are crafted from solid teak, displaying a warm reddish-brown tone with visible straight grain patterns and a satin finish that highlights the natural character of the wood. The armrests are gently curved, and the rear legs are subtly raked, contributing to the sculptural form and overall visual lightness characteristic of Danish modern seating.

The backrests feature an angled, slatted construction with vertical supports housed within a geometrically defined trapezoidal frame. The joinery includes visible dovetail details and is reinforced with exposed brass brackets, providing a discreet yet refined structural accent.

The cushions have been newly upholstered in a neutral ivory bouclé fabric, offering a tactile contrast to the smooth teak frame. The seat and back cushions are separate and generously padded, complementing the chair’s relaxed, reclined posture. Both chairs retain excellent structural integrity with minimal wear on the teak frames and clean, unused upholstery.

Niels Kofoed was recognized for his commitment to craftsmanship and for designing elegant, ergonomic seating solutions. His Hornslet workshop specialized in refined solid wood furniture, firmly rooted in the Scandinavian modern tradition, emphasizing high-quality materials, clear forms, and functional beauty.

The design reflects the mid-century Danish ethos by combining organic materials with minimalist construction. The Lars model is comparatively rare and distinguished by its sculptural detailing and precise joinery.

Each chair measures 70 centimeters in width, 71 centimeters in depth, and 71 centimeters in height, with a seat height of 38 centimeters. In imperial units, this corresponds to approximately 27.6 inches wide, 28 inches deep, 28 inches high, and a seat height of 15 inches.
