Finn Juhl easy chairs
This very rare pair of easy chairs was designed by Finn Juhl and produced by Søren Willadsen Møbelfabrik in Denmark in 1950. The chairs are exemplary of mid-century Scandinavian modern design, featuring organically sculpted teak frames defined by smooth curves and precise craftsmanship. The armrests are distinctive in their flowing form, while the slightly reclined backrests contribute to an inviting and ergonomic seating experience.
Finn Juhl (1912–1989) was a pioneering Danish designer celebrated for his sculptural furniture that drew inspiration from modern art and organic shapes. He broke from traditional Danish woodworking conventions by introducing fluid and expressive forms that had a lasting influence on Scandinavian design globally. Søren Willadsen Møbelfabrik, a respected Danish furniture manufacturer, played a crucial role in realizing Juhl’s designs with meticulous attention to detail and quality.
The chairs retain their original upholstery, featuring a textured brown fabric with button tufting on the backrests contrasted by smooth grey seat cushions. The chairs rest on tapered teak legs that echo the frame’s gentle curves, creating a cohesive and balanced aesthetic. The set is in well-preserved condition, showing only minor wear consistent with its vintage age.
Each chair measures 82 cm in width, 71 cm in depth, and 76 cm in height, with a seat height of 36 cm (32.3 by 28 by 29.9 inches, seat height 14.2 inches), making them both sculptural and comfortable seating options within a mid-century modern interior.
