Børge Mogensen armchair
This rare armchair, designed by Børge Mogensen and produced by Søborg Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1950s, epitomizes Mogensen’s dedication to comfort, craftsmanship, and functional clarity within Danish design.
The frame, made of solid oak, presents a warm honey-toned finish that highlights the wood’s natural grain. Its finely proportioned structure includes slightly tapered vertical front and back legs connected by horizontal stretchers, which ensure stability and contribute to a grounded, classic profile. The armrests extend gently forward with softly rounded ends, adding subtle elegance without unnecessary embellishment. A curved backrest support incorporates a visible brass strut, serving both as reinforcement and a tasteful decorative element, emblematic of Mogensen’s pragmatic design philosophy.
The seat and backrest cushions are upholstered in the original wool fabric featuring a fine houndstooth pattern in brown and black tones. The upholstery is well-preserved, displaying only gentle signs of age and wear. The cushions are ergonomically shaped and integrated directly within the wooden frame, reflecting Mogensen’s preference for rational simplicity and utilitarian elegance.
