Information

This rare coffee table, model “Capri” designed by Johannes Andersen and produced by Trensum Möbelfabrik in Sweden during the 1960s, exemplifies refined Scandinavian mid-century design. The table’s organic, surfboard-inspired top presents an asymmetrical, biomorphic silhouette that tapers gracefully toward the ends, enhancing its sculptural appeal.

The tabletop is veneered in richly figured rosewood, displaying deep reddish-brown tones and intricate, symmetrical linear grain patterns along its length. The smooth rounded edge banding and beveled contours soften the overall presence while highlighting the natural warmth and texture of the rosewood.

Supporting the top is a solid mahogany frame and tapering legs, which provide a stable yet visually light structure. Along one long side, two integrated drawers with carved recessed pulls offer discreet functionality without disrupting the sleek apron line. The drawers feature dovetail joinery, reflecting the craftsmanship typical of Andersen’s work.

Completely restored, the table is in very good vintage condition, with a polished surface that showcases the depth of the wood grain and only minor wear from prior use.

Johannes Andersen (1903–1991) was known for his sculptural furniture forms and contribution to Scandinavian modernism, often working with softened shapes and precise detailing. The Capri table is a rare example of his elegant yet practical design philosophy.

Dimensions: 172 cm wide, 68 cm deep, 50 cm high (approximately 67.7″ W × 26.8″ D × 19.7″ H).
