Johannes Andersen coffee table

This rare coffee table was designed by Johannes Andersen and produced by Trensum Möbelfabrik in Sweden during the 1960s. Crafted from solid rosewood and rosewood veneer, the piece showcases the material’s highly figured grain, with dark brown tones interspersed with amber and reddish highlights. The expressive grain pattern, particularly visible on the top surface, has been enhanced through a complete restoration that has preserved the wood’s depth and character while refining its surface condition.

The table features a biomorphic, sculptural form with a slightly trapezoidal top that curves inward along its long edges. This softly contoured surface is balanced by a frame of tapering, round legs that flow elegantly into the apron. The seamless joinery between the legs and frame highlights the high level of craftsmanship typical of mid-century Scandinavian furniture. The low profile and wide proportions of the table make it ideal as a centerpiece in a lounge setting, emphasizing both function and sculptural presence.
