Anders Pehrson table lamp
The table lamp model Bumling was designed by Anders Pehrson and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden, during the 1960s. Introduced in 1968, the Bumling series became an iconic part of Ateljé Lyktan’s mid-century production, embodying Scandinavian modernist principles through its blend of industrial character, functionalist form, and attention to material detail.
This example features a brass construction with a leather-covered base. The lampshade is a distinctive flared cylinder with a convex profile, crafted from spun brass exhibiting a warm, reflective golden tone. The surface shows natural patina and oxidation typical of untreated brass, consistent with the lamp’s vintage age. Inside the shade, white plastic louvres diffuse light evenly and reduce glare—a hallmark of Pehrson’s designs that balances technical function with visual softness.
The brass upright stem is anchored to a flat circular base clad in hand-stitched brown leather. The leather surface is smooth and subtly textured, showing signs of wear and discoloration in line with age and use. A switch is mounted discreetly on the stem just below the shade, preserving the lamp’s clean silhouette.
The lamp is in good condition, with a well-developed patina on the brass and minor wear to the leather. All components appear original and the lamp functions fully.
Anders Pehrson, who served as creative director at Ateljé Lyktan from 1964, played a key role in shifting the company toward industrial and systematized production. The Bumling line is among his most successful and enduring designs, produced in numerous variations.
