Information

This rare table lamp was designed by Sonja Katzin and produced by ASEA in Sweden during the 1950s. Constructed from solid brass, the lamp features a symmetrical two-arm design with a central vertical support that extends into a geometric handle-like element at the top. The arms curve gently, each ending in a brass lamp holder fitted with a conical black fabric lampshade. The rectangular base combines polished brass with a contrasting black-painted section adorned with a recessed geometric pattern.

The lamp exemplifies mid-century Scandinavian design through its refined use of materials and focus on functional elegance. The brass has developed a natural patina over time, adding depth and character, while the black lampshades provide a striking contrast and direct light downward for an atmospheric effect. A small white push-button switch on the base maintains the lamp’s clean, minimalistic appearance.

Sonja Katzin was known for her sophisticated, sculptural lighting designs. ASEA, a respected Swedish manufacturer of electrical and lighting equipment, collaborated with leading designers like Katzin to produce high-quality, modernist lighting solutions.

The lamp is in very good vintage condition, showing age-appropriate wear. The brass retains its aged patina, and the black lampshades remain well preserved, complementing the original design.

Dimensions are 42 cm wide, 20 cm deep, and 42 cm high (16.5 x 7.9 x 16.5 inches).
